Personality:
A long term observer of the woman may say a simple phrase: Mei has no distinctive personality. Her desires, wishes, and morals are in constant shift, like a rotating wheel with no near end in sight. One moment content with peace, she may become surprisingly adventurous the following week. Fickle and unpredictable, she scarcely makes meaningful relationships for very long, moving on to new interests before allowing the pleasure.
Despite this, there is a basic person to her. Mei strives to weave her life as of the present, ignoring the variables of past and future. Her intense dislike for monotony leads her to do things differently every time, even if just slightly. She also has a distinct fondness for the occult, various types of cards, and interesting discoveries of the alternate world. Her demeanor is always rather cheerful, no matter what her current state; she has enough energy to run around a building plenty of times without tiring of it, given that each turn is different from the last. Her smile (or perhaps better worded as smirk) only disappears in combat, whereas she always retains a serious composition… until the enemy is defeated, of course.
Mei retains a sort of “motto” for her present life. “Live in the present and the moment of life; never stop yourself from doing what your heart tells you, even if you get hurt.” Then again, one can wonder how long she even cares for the pain with that rotating personality…

History:
Mei was born to a European mother and Japanese father, spending the majority of her early life in the dull countryside. Though her elder sister was an avid student who received the attention and acclaim from her parents, Mei chose other ways to occupy her in the preferred solitude. The eccentric child became obsessively fond of the occult and many superstitions of the world—this was one of the few interests of hers that remained no matter how her mood shifted in teenage years.
Around the age fourteen, her older sister mysteriously died. Superstitious as those of the countryside tend to be, Mei was to blame due to her affection for magic and ancient myths. The incident forced the family to move from their home to Katsuyama, a far distance away from their former residence. Mei never noticed the changes in the townsfolk, thinking their move was simply for a change of scenery into the city.
It was after a long talk with the principal at the setting sun she heard that fatal sound; bike in her hands ready to head home, the clock tower’s chime rang through her ears. Soon following the clangor was a mysterious, blue butterfly; by instinct, she foolishly followed the creature that ultimately led to her disappearance from the real Katsuyama.

*Mei is most often found directly outside the mall district, searching for a lost traveler to guide along or searching for some unsuspecting enemy to practice her card skills on.

*When not outside the Mall, Mei can be found inside a strange, occult store; she is always fiddling with cards while inside.

*Despite being a fortune teller, very rarely will she actually read someone's fortune on her tarot cards.

*She often wears different hairstyles.

*Rather than living in the past like she did as a child, Mei has devoted herself to the present; thus, her persona manifests as Verdandi.
